In the redesign of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa we are providing information resources and support for Te Tīrewa Marautanga, Ako and Aromatawai. This page focuses on Aromatawai.

Aromatawai is a way of perceiving mokopuna and their relationship to learning, what they can do, their learning journey and experience, their special talents and strengths, the things that inspire and motivate them, the relationship between Kaiako and mokopuna, and how that information can support learning, both instantly and over time.

Aromatawai Engagements Term 4

Facilitated workshops are planned in a region near you from 6th of November through to 8th of December 2023. The workshops will help unpack the Ako Framework and Te Puāwaitanga Harakeke.
Workshops will be held across 13 regions from the North Island through to the South Island. Register for a workshop.

He rauemi tēnei mā ngā Kaupapa Māori me ngā Kura Māori hei tautoko i tā te kaiako mahi me te whakapiki whāinga mō ngā mokopuna mā te kohi i ngā pārongo mō te whanaketanga o te ākonga i ngā wāhanga o Te Reo Matatini me te Pāngarau.

Tīrewa Mātai

Kōkō Pīwari

Ko ia tō tātou kaiārahi.

Ka topa haere i te rangi kia whakarongo ake ki ngā pakiwaitara huhua e pā ana ki te harakeke tētahi wāhi ka tau ai a Kōkō Pīwari ki te ngote i te reka o ngā pua.

Mā Kōkō Pīwari e whakaohoohotia ana te wairua Māori, ka whakakoia ngā tairongo, ka whakaū ki te ngākau ngā whakaaro maha mō ngā tini mata o Aromatawai i roto i tōna ake taiao mai i te tirohanga Māori. Nō reira, kia mau, kia ū ki ngā tohutohu a Kōkō Pīwari

Kōkō Pīwari.  He will be our guide.

He will soar in the sky, while listening to the various stories pertaining to harakeke, a spot frequented by Kōkō Pīwari to eat the nectar of the blossoms. 

He will awaken the Māori essence, sharpen the senses and instil within everyone the many ideas pertaining to Ngā Tini Mata o te Aromatawai, within the context of his own environment, from a Māori perspective. 

So hold tight and pay attention to the advice of Kōkō Pīwari.

Ngā Kōrero o nehe

Hei tā te tirohanga Māori mō te whakapapa o Harakeke.

E hoki ana tēnei kōrero ki te wā whai muri i te wehenga o Ranginui rāua ko Papatūānuku.

E ai ki te kōrero, ko ngā tamariki o Rangi rāua ko Papa he tāne te katoa.

I mōhio tonu a Tāne me kimi ia i te Kurawaka.

Kāore ia i te tino mōhio he aha rawa tērā.

Nō reira, i haere ia ki te torotoro ki ngā momo rākau. 

Tirohia te whakapapa i raro iho nei mō te nui o ngā rākau i tūpono atu ia.

This aligns with the Māori perspective of the genealogy of Harakeke.  This history stems from the time after the separation of Ranginui and Papatūānuku.  It is said that all the children of Rangi and Papa were male.  Tāne knew it was imperative to locate Kurawaka, but he wasn't quite sure what that was.  So, he explored the different trees.  Take a look at the genealogy below for a list of the trees he came across.
