Ko te whāinga a Te Ahu o te Reo Māori, ko te whakatipu, ko te whakapakari hoki i tētahi rangapū kaimahi mātauranga e pūkenga ana ki te whakatō i te reo rangatira nei ki ngā akoako a ngā ākonga katoa i Aotearoa.

Te Ahu o te Reo Māori aims to grow and strengthen an education workforce that can integrate te reo Māori into the learning of all ākonga in Aotearoa.

Te Ahu o te Reo Māori will be available across all regions in 2021. Planning for the national rollout is well underway and we will be sharing new delivery information over the next few months.

Mā wai tēnei kaupapa?

I whakatūria a Te Ahu o te Reo Māori hei piruru mō te rangapū kaimahi o te rāngai mātauranga, e whai wāhi ana ki ngā akoako a ngā ākonga katoa. Kia tutuki ā mātou whāinga, e kaha hiahia mātou kia mahi ngātahi ki ēnei rōpū:

  • Ko ngā kaiako reo Pākehā i ngā ratonga ako kōhungahunga tae atu ki ngā kura tuarua
  • Ko ngā kaiako reo Māori, i ngā Kōhanga Reo tae atu ki ngā wharekura
  • Ko ngā kaiāwhina i ngā kura, i te wharekura, i ngā ratonga ako kōhungahunga me ngā Kōhanga Reo

Ko ngā rōpū kāore e whai wāhi mai:

  • Ko ngā kaiako i te rāngai mātauranga matua
  • Ko ngā kaikirimana pāti tuatoru e mahi ana i roto i te rāngai
  • Ko ngā pia kaiako e whakangungua ana
  • Ko ngā mātua o ngā tamariki, ako ai ki te kāinga
  • Ko ngā kaiako, kua tukuna ki te whakawhānau/tiaki pēpi, ki te ako/rangahau rānei

Can I participate?

Te Ahu o te Reo Māori has been designed for the education workforce that engages with and contributes to the learning of all ākonga and students.  In order to progress towards our goals, we are targeting participation from these groups:

  • English medium teachers from early learning services through to secondary school
  • Māori medium kaiako, from Kōhanga Reo through to wharekura
  • Non-teaching and support staff in kura, schools, wharekura, early learning services and Kōhanga Reo

Groups not eligible to participate include:

  • Teachers in the tertiary sector
  • Third-party contractors employed in the sector
  • Those in teacher training
  • Parents’ home schooling children
  • Teachers who are currently on maternity or study leave

Ki tēnei wā, e tau ana a Te Ahu o te Reo Māori i raro i te tīrewa pūkenga reo Māori e kīia nei, ko Ngā Taumata o Te Ahu o te Reo Māori. E rima ngā wāhanga matua:

  • Mita / Reo ā-iwi – Ko ngā kupu ā-iwi, kīanga, karakia, waiata me ngā kīwaha
  • Whakamahi – Ko te kōrero i te reo e tika ana ki ngā horopaki o te akomanga
  • Tikanga o te Reo – Ko ngā whāriki mō te tikanga o te reo me te taha tuhituhi
  • Marautanga – Ko te waihanga rauemi akoako hei whakamahi noa i ngā wā e hiahiatia ai
  • Whakarauora – Ko te whakamahere reo mō te kura / ratonga ako kōhungahunga / akomanga rānei

Ngā Taumata o Te Ahu o te Reo Māori

What will I learn?

Te Ahu o te Reo Māori is currently based on a te reo Māori competency framework called Ngā Taumata o Te Ahu o te Reo Māori. The five focus areas include:

  • Local Dialect – Local words, phrases, karakia, waiata and sayings
  • Use – Practise of reo use appropriate for a classroom setting
  • Grammar – Foundations of grammar and writing conventions
  • Curriculum – Development of learning content for regular activity
  • Revitalisation – Language planning for the school/early learning services/classroom.

He aha ngā hua ka puta ki a au?

Ka tutuki i te tangata ngā kaupapa o te hōtaka nei, Te Ahu o te Reo Māori, ka āhei ai ia ki te:

  • tiritiri i ōna mōhiotanga, pūkenga ki ana hōtaka whakaako, otirā, ka whakamārō i te taura here ki ngā ākonga, ki ngā mātua me ngā whānau
  • āta mārama ki ngā hapori e mahi tahi nā ia i roto, ā, ko te mārama tonu ki ngā pūrākau o taua rohe, ki tōna reo ūkaipō, me te reo ā-iwi o taua whenua
  • manaaki i ngā kaupapa/huarahi rānei e tareka ai e ngā kaimahi me ngā ākonga te kōrero Māori ia rā, ia rā

What will I achieve?

Participants who successfully complete Te Ahu o te Reo Māori will be able to:

  • use the knowledge and skills gained in their teaching programmes and enhance their relationships with ākonga, parents and whanau
  • have improved understanding of the communities they are a part of, especially the stories, language features and dialects unique to the region
  • nurture opportunities for all staff and ākonga to use te reo Māori every day.
